If a person who you live with has your social sec. number and uses it against your will?

If a person who you live with has your social sec. number

and you find forms for insurance fraud, mortgages, and long letters in handwriting clearly not yours with a completely clearly forged signature is there ANY way you can get a legal name change? They got it by looking through my things and threatening etc... How can you protect your social security number in the future? I was told that the soc. sec. number was to be left the way it is, but this is terrible and a bad situation unless, could there be a special circumstance like an emergency where it could be changed or something? This person is also abusive, has a history of stalking, threats, and money transfer scams at the bank?

Hello? You need to call the police. Identity theft is against the law.

You can get a legal name change, sure, but the SSN remains your forever.

Don't let this jackass ruin your life and change who you are. Seriously, call the police and have this taken care of. You will need a police report so that you can clear your name and SSN.

911.... make the call.......
Get rid of the roomie first. Then go to the police tell them that ur SSN is stolen and signature forger, bring those counterfeited documents. In the future, keep ur SSN card in your wallet and use it only when alone
This is all fraud. File a complaint, get this person convicted and in jail where they belong.

You don't need a name change. You need the police. There is clearly serious criminal activity. You have an obligation to report the person. Obtain all possible evidence, then go to the police and have the person arrested. Why would you want to live with him?

A name change is possible through court action, but it can cause all sorts of problems. Only one of the problems could be people thinking that you have done something wrong and want to hide your prior identity. Save yourself a lot of trouble and terminate the relationship with this person.
First go to the police and explain the situation. Then call the 3 credit bureau's and report you ssn was stolen. That way if something goes down you have proof with reporting to credit agencies and the police. I wouldn't wait any longer to go to the police cause if something does happen you will be to blame. Then kick that person's *** with a baseball bat.
Discuss this with them, to find out as much as possible about any other frauds that they have committed in your name - there could be others, of course!

You can notify all of the credit reference agencies about this too, suggesting that they put a note against your details saying that you may potentially be scammed and to request face to face interviews/photo ID checks for ALL applications involving your name and social security number being used: this should prevent most/all future fraud, where they attempt to contract things in your name.

You can also request details of any checks that have been done by companies, against your details - this may also show some surprises for you.

Contact the police asap, though you don't need to warn your roomie, as they may abscond etc. Take copies of the forged documents, and only show the copies to the roomie- in case they grab them and take them off you. I'd keep them away from your home, if possible, but don't let others touch the originals, unless you immediately notify the police and hand them over.

I don't know whose property that you live with, but it sounds a good idea but look to change, either location, or get your roomie kicked out - they may end up in prison, but why wait for this.

The police are also likely to offer some good advice to you too, though I'd warn against changing your name, as this might seem as though you are in some way guilty of something, which you clearly are not.

All the best!!
That is called identity theft, and to protect your credit rating, I would move out (or ask the individual to leave) and call the police.

One of the main requirements lenders have in not holding YOU responsible for the debt, is you will be required to sign an affidavit saying that you will be ok with the creditor criminally prosecuting ANY individual that obtained the debts, without you permission. That means your brother, sister, cousin, parents, significant other....anyone.

If you do not take these steps, you will be forced to pay.
