How to go about changing my last name after marriage, and the cost in Texas?

Im assuming you have to do your social security card....will the number change and what is the cost? Then drivers license, and the cost for that?

Your changing your name to your husbands. There should be no cost. Just need to bring your marriage certificate and current ID to the SS administration office to make the name change. They'll provide you with a print out showing your new name (SS # remains the same) and mail you your new card in probably 4-6 weeks. After you have that paper work you can then apply for a name change on your driver's license. Once again bring ID, marriage certificate and new SS card/print out. They'll make the change and print you a new license. Shouldn't cost you anything unless you opt for a new photo, then you may have to pay a few dollars. Your states transportation authority site should have their regulations in detail. Congrats.

I'm a bit confused by your question. If your name is changed, it's changed by a document the judge signs. Changing your name back to a previous name is free when it's part of the Final Decree of Divorce. If you forgot to have it changed in the Decree, you're looking at a separate lawsuit, with a filing fee of $300 or so, plus out of pocket expenses such as for the criminal background check, fingerprinting at the police station, FBI fingerprint checks, and other things. An inexpensive lawyer may do the lawyer's part for $1000 to $2000, but there's still the expenses mentioned above. The only good news about a real name change (not the free one in the divorce decree) is that you don't have to change your name back to a name you've had before, and you can change your name to The Symbol Formerly Known as Prince or whatever.

On the other hand, if you did have your name changed in the Decree and you're just trying to let everybody know about it, then you'll need a certified copy of your Final Decree of Divorce (your divorce lawyer should have made sure you had one when you left the courthouse). You can ask the District Clerk to make a copy and certify it for you (and they'll typically charge $1 a page to make the copy, then $2 to $5 to certify it), or you can bring a copy and they'll just charge you $2 to $5 to certify your copy. Take the certified copy to the Social Security Administration and say %26quot;I just got divorced and my name was changed.%26quot; Then take it to the drivers license folks, then take it to your Human Resources Department where you work, then take it to your bank, and so on.
I live in texas, and the ss card is free. Just go to the local ss office with your divorce decree and they can handle it for you. The license, is the same process, go the the DPS office, show them you are divorced and pay $15. The name change itself was probably a right granted to you as a condition of the divorce. Look in the final decree, or contact your lawyer. There is no charge for you once you change your license, etc to start using your maiden name again.
Depends on how much the drivers license is in your state. You can only change your

last name on the Social Security cards and not the number. They will not and cannot

change the S.S number.
