How to report an Identity theft?

Someone pretended to be from Wells Fargo and told my dad that someone was trying to take something out of our account. The person said that they needed my dad's Social Security number. It turns out that that person wasn't from Wells Fargo. We changed all of our accounts, but that person still has the SS number. Should I report to the local police?

i think you should report it. and watch out about giving the SS number before checking who the person really is. and you gotta talk to that social security office or something
Yes.

If they can't catch the thief, at least the police report will be on file, if the thief attempts to use the SS number.

Also, your dad can put a fraud alert on his credit.

That means that the creditor will have to contact your dad, at his present address, in order to grant any credit the thief may apply for in your dad's name.
