Aren't psychic readings just a bunch of nonsense?

According to my brother, who is a U.S. Marshall, no criminal investigation has ever been solved with any information that came from a psychic. This is contrary to popular belief.

Also ponder this. The Psychic Friends Network filed for bancruptcy. You would think that they should have seen that coming. And, how come when you call, they ask you for your credit card number? They are the psychics, so shouldn't they already know your credit card number ?

If any psychic out there can tell me something specific - like my social security number, that would change my opinion of this nonsense.
Aren't psychic readings just a bunch of nonsense?
I agree with you 100%. These so-called psychics tell people such vague information that any person who wants to believe it will. It's so rediculous just like horoscopes. I'll never understand how people get suckered into that crap.

Why didn't any of the psychics warn us about 9/11?
Aren't psychic readings just a bunch of nonsense?
it's such a waste of money. its not true and they are all a bunch of low lives.
Yes. Just like ghosts, New Age, Ufo's, crop circles, cristal healing and religion.
yes but birthdays do determine personalities....

wrong sect
Exactly! It is just a bunch of hog wash
Most are nonsense but some are true and almost creepy when they come true.
I agree. I do believe that there are some people out there who have some psychic ability but they are most likely smart enough not to use it on the %26quot;psychic friends network%26quot; or set up shop in their house.
Are you kidding? That's a perfect description!
yeh it is nonsense, like Derren Brown found out when he did an experiment for it.
Yes.
Yes, also known as bull****, bunco, confidence scam and fraud.
some people do have powers i think, i don't have any real evidence other than the Bible... and also there are prophetic dreams from God and stuff. Visions of the future are either from Satan or God.

immediate edit: lol someone went through and thumbs upped EVERY answer supporting psychics, and thumbsdowned all saying it isnt true
I believe SOME people have a special ability to know certain things that you never thought they would have know... but I went to a phony once and totally wasted $30!! It was when i was heart broken and I wanted to know if he would come back to me! She was such a phony I couldnt stand it!!!
Yeah, its just about as much nonsense as christianity
What most people don't understand about %26quot;psychics%26quot; or divination in general is that it only shows you one of an infinite number of possibilities available to you throughout your life. I believe that some people have the gift of foresight, and that it has absolutely nothing to do with seeing the future, but more the ability to remove oneself (objectively) from a situation and examine all the possibilities through different courses of action and then proceed. But true %26quot;psychics%26quot;....well, lets just say I've been a witch for a really looooooong time and i've been all over.....and I've never met a true psychic.
While I believe in psychic phenomena, I don't believe in psychic fortune telling. It's bogus and preys on the gullible.
I believe some people actually have the gift. I know a US marshall who believes cases have been solved by this ability. You see cases all the time be solved by psychics. Some people use this as a scam and there are some who I believe are true blue.
That and horoscopes and all that bull crap my friend. SImply do this, read someone else's horoscope without knowing it sin't yours and you will go like %26quot;oh my god!! that is so like me %26quot; . It is all crap, like you said, how come they can't forsee say... lotto numbers? No planet or star alignment will tell me what will happen to my life or someone reading what is in the bottom of a coffeee cup....

oh yeah, and what lupinesidhe is talking about, is actually a science and we call it Game Strategy...nothing paranormal about it, just looking at one of several possibilities of an event if certain action is taken
When will people realize that sickics are fakes. All, A-L-L supernaturals are just superstitions.

If sickics and fortune tellers were what they claim to be, they would win every lotto in the country, every time.
It is a strange phenomonen, but not psyhic.

Here is how it works today. In the past psyhics used memory. Now there is software.

They ask your name. %26quot;john%26quot; they hit %26quot;john%26quot; on their computer. Nmae of some famous people named %26quot;john%26quot; will come up. They will ask, where do you live? The computer will elliminate any %26quot;john%26quot; who does not live near you. What is your occupation? Artist/writer. The computer will leave %26quot;john's%26quot; who are writers/artist that live near you.

The computer keeps eliminating until the psyhic has a profile of you. Then the computer displays things about the remaining %26quot;john's%26quot;. For some unknown reason many much of the information gathered will also match you.

The computers says that 36 out of 100 john's wife is named Mary or Jane or Sally.

The pshysic will ask you, is your wifes name Mary? No. How about Jane. etc. Chances are he will hit your wifes name. It's strange but it works. Then so on.

I discovered this in college when my wife worked as a waitress. Later i went to retuarents and noticed waitresses that looked like my wife. I would ask questions like %26quot;is your husband a student%26quot;. Yes he is!
%26quot; fortune tellers have lied even if they were right.%26quot;

How come that some people have this apparent psychic ability?

In islam we believe in a creation, invisible to us called Jinn.

One of the most frequent activities associated with the Jinn, is fortune telling. Before the advent of the Prophet (pbuh) fortune-tellers and soothsayers were wide spread. These people would use their associates from the Jinn to find out about the future. The Jinns would go to the lowest heaven and listen to the Angels conversing amongst themselves about events of the Future which they heard from Allah. The Jinns would then inform the fortune-tellers. This is why before the time of the Prophet (pbuh) many fortune-tellers were very accurate in their predictions. However, upon the Prophet's arrival the heavens were guarded intensely by the Angels, and any Jinn who tried to listen was attacked by meteors (shooting stars):

%26quot;And We have guarded it (the heavens) from every accursed devil, except one who is able to snatch a hearing and he is pursued by a brightly burning flame%26quot;

Quran: [Surah Al-Hijr, 15:18]

The Prophet (pbuh) also said: %26quot;They (the Jinn) would pass the information back down until it reaches the lips of a magician or fortune-teller Sometimes a meteor would overtake them before they could pass it on. If they passed it on before being struck, they would ADD to it a hundred lies%26quot; . Thus, it is clear from this as to how fortune-tellers get predictions of the future right. It is also evident as to why they get so many wrong. Men like Nostradamusare an example, as some of his predictions of the future were correct whilst many were completely wrong.

Fortune-tellers also operate through the Qareen. The Qareen is the Jinn companion which is assigned to EVERY human being. It is this Jinn which whispers to our base desires and constantly tries to divert us from righteousness. The Prophet (pbuh) said: %26quot;Everyone of you has been assigned a companion from the Jinn.%26quot;

The companions asked: Even you O' Messenger of Allah?

And the Prophet replied: %26quot;Even me, except that Allah has helped me against him and he has submitted. Now he only tells me to do good%26quot; .

Because the Qareen is with a person all his life, it knows all that has happened to the person from the cradle to the grave. By making contact with the Qareen, the fortune-teller is thus able to make out that it is he who knows about the person. He looks in his crystal ball or the palm of a person and proceeds to amaze him with knowledge which no one else knows.

The severity of going to a fortune-teller is such that the Prophet (pbuh) said: %26quot;The prayer of one who approaches a fortune-teller and asks him about anything, will not be accepted for forty days or nights%26quot; and: %26quot;Whosoever approaches a fortune-teller and believes in what he says, has disbelieved in what was revealed to Muhammed%26quot; {ie disbeleived in god}
You don't want an answer, you have your answer already so go sit down and shut up. Cheers.
