My work's payroll messed up my Social Security Number. When I do my taxes, how will it affect them (if at all)?

My uncle, an IRS agent, did them recently. The withholding was $230.06 for the federal and $100 or so from the state. That seems a little small to me if I claimed Single/00 and I'm a college student.

Now I'm wondering if that small sum has something to do with my payroll people. Because they only changed it a few weeks before they mailed out the W4s.

Can anyone help me out and seeing if this is correct?

With your low level of earning, this does not seem small at all.

If you are comparing your withholding to prior years, keep in mind that federal withholding schedules changed in 2009 to take into account the Make Work Pay credit.

It does not seem small to me. It seems large to me. If you make under $5000, there is no reason to have any money withheld for income tax. If they had withheld only $1 for income tax, that would be $1 more than necessary.

By the way, the form that they send out is a W-2. The W-4 is a form that you give them.
